SUBJECT: Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Planning Organization Vote To Make The Beach
Corridor Project (MacArthur Causeway Light Rail/Modern Streetcar) A Priority
On Tuesday July 22"d, the Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Planning Organization unanimously
approved an amendment to the County's Long Range Transportation Plan to include in Priority 1
the Project Development and Environmental Phase for the Beach Corridor project that will
provide a light rail/modern streetcar connection across the MacArthur Causeway.
A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed jointly by Miami Beach, City of Miami, Florida
Department of Transportation and Miami Dade County that provides the overall approach for this
phase, as well as funding responsibilities. These cooperative, important steps are critical
movements needed to have a light trail/modern streetcar connection from the Metrorail system
downtown to Miami Beach, ultimately connection with the Modern streetcar system that we are
developing in Miami Beach.
