NO. LTC# 326-2016 LETTER TO COMMISSION

DATE: August 3, 2016 ,i
SUBJECT: MIAMI BEACH TROLLEY AND MIAMI-DADE TRANSIT CIRCULATOR RIDERSHIP
REPORT (FY2016— 3RD QUARTER)
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to report ridership figures for the City of Miami Beach Trolley
System and Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public works (MDTPW) circulators during the
third quarter of Fiscal Year 2016, from April 1 to June 30, 2016.
As illustrated in the attached ridership report (Attachment A), the North Beach Loop observed an average
daily ridership of 2,432 passengers during this quarter. The overall ridership of the North Beach Loop
service during the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2015/16 was 221,219 passengers. This represents an
approximate 3.2% increase in ridership over the previous quarter and 19% increase in comparison to the
same quarter of the previous Fiscal Year (Attachment B). The overall ridership of the temporary Alton-
West Loop during the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2015/16 was 96,747 passengers. This represents an
approximate 8.3% decrease in ridership over the previous quarter and 7% increase in comparison to the
same quarter of the previous Fiscal Year.
The City of Miami Beach trolley system provided transit service to a total of 317,966 passengers during
the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2015/16 and cumulatively to over 2.1 million passengers from inception to
the end of the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2015/16.
In addition to the City's trolley system, the County operates two (2) circulator routes entirely within City
boundaries (the South Beach Local (SBL) and Route 115/117). The ridership for the month of April for
SBL and Route 115/117, was 72,824 and 15,096, respectively (Attachment A). Ridership totals for the
months of May and June have not yet been published by MDTPW. The County ridership figures for May
and June will be included in the next quarterly ridership report and issued via LTC. Based on the second
quarter ridership data for Fiscal Year 2015/16, the County circulator service has experienced a 21%
decrease in ridership for the South Beach Local and 35% decrease in ridership for Route 115/117 as
compared to the second quarter of the previous fiscal year(Attachment B).
Overall ridership information for both the City's trolley system and the County's SBL and Route 115/117
for previous fiscal years has been included in Attachment C for reference.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
