A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO APPLY FOR, ACCEPT, APPROPRIATE
FUNDING FOR (INCLUDING MATCHING FUNDS AND ANY RELATED CITY
EXPENSES), AND TO EXECUTE A MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT, AND ANY
AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS OR AGREEMENTS, IN CONNECTION
WITH A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION FOR THE FLORIDA HIGHWAY BEAUTIFICATION
COUNCIL GRANT PROGRAM IN THE APPROXIMATE AMOUNT OF $20,000
FOR LANDSCAPING ON ALTON ROAD AND 41ST STREET.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is seeking funding for landscape enhancements
for the beautification on Alton Road and 41st Street; and
WHEREAS, several on- and off-ramps to major highways are present in the general
location including a small section of Alton Road that is the only major artery on the west side of
Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, each year, millions of national and international visitors to Miami Beach
travel through this corridor and this is a very important project for the City of Miami Beach in
regards to maintaining its vision and appeal as a lush, vibrant city; and
WHEREAS, this grant proposal will transfer a purely functional, uninteresting landscape
design into a dynamic, tree-filled design that covers the swales and retention areas with urban
landscaping; and
WHEREAS, Miami Beach is a heavily urbanized area and landscaping enhances the
overall appearance and appeal for residents and visitors alike; and
WHEREAS, the City Administration intends to apply for landscape funding in the
amount of $20,000 and this grant requires matching funds which are available in the City's FY
2016/17 Greenspace Management Operational Budget; and
WHEREAS, the City will be responsible for any maintenance costs and the City will
execute a maintenance agreement if the grant is awarded to the City; and
WHEREAS, this project supports the key intended outcome to enhance beautification
and cleanliness of City-owned corridors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH that the Mayor and City Commission hereby
approve and authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to apply for, accept, appropriate
funding for (including matching funds and any related city expenses), and to execute a
maintenance agreement, and any and all necessary documents or agreements, in connection
with a grant application to the Florida Department of Transportation for the Florida Highway
Beautification Grant Program in the approximate amount of $20,000 for landscaping on Alton
Road and 41st Street.

RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
The City of Miami Beach is seeking funding for landscape enhancements for the beautification
of Alton Road and 41st Street. These are very important projects for the City in regards to
maintaining its vision and appeal as a lush, vibrant city.
Miami Beach is a heavily urbanized area and having urban landscaping enhances the overall
appearance and appeal for residents and visitors alike. If awarded, the City will sign a
Maintenance Agreement certifying that the City will be responsible for the maintenance of all
landscaping. The Administration intends to apply for funding in the approximate amount of
$20,000. This grant requires matching funds in the amount of$20,000 which are available in the
FY 16/17 Greenspace Management Division Operating Budget. This project supports the key
intended outcome to enhance beautification and cleanliness of city owned corridors.
CONCLUSION
The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission approve and authorize the
City Manager, or his Designee, to apply for, accept, and appropriate funding (including matching
funds and any related city expenses), and execute a maintenance agreement and any and all
documents or agreements in connection with a grant application to Florida Department of
Transportation for the Florida Highway Beautification Council in the approximate amount of
