LTC 404-2016 100 Resilient Cities Agenda Setting Workshop MIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER NO. LTC # 404-2016 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO Mayor Philip Levine and Members of the City Commission FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager // DATE: September 30, 2016 SUBJECT: 100 Resilient Cities Agenda Setting Workshop I am pleased to advise that the public process for developing the Greater Miami & the Beaches (GM&TB) Resilience Strategy took place on September 29, 2016 and it is off to a great start. As you know, the City of Miami Beach joined forces with the City of Miami and Miami Dade County last fall to apply for the 100 Resilient Cities (100 RC) network membership. After a very competitive process, more than 1000 applications over a three year cycle, this unique city/county collaboration caught the attention of the funders and we were chosen to enter the network. 100 RC is in 45 countries with 29 different languages. The Agenda Setting Workshop was the most well-attended meeting of the 60 workshops held around the world to date. With more than 200 attendees, this showed our community commitment and dedication to making us a truly resilient community. Mayor Levine and Chief Resiliency Officer (CRO) Susanne Torriente participated and represented the city in the program. Miami Beach Commissioner Aleman, staff, residents, businesses attended and participated. 11 .....0.- - Iw \-\ t? - 1 4 ' ci A ' i Over the next few months our staff will work to develop a strategy for the region and specifically for Miami Beach. This is not a community master plan, but rather an action- oriented prioritization process. It will leverage and integrate other plans, and ultimately inform our policy and budget decision making process. Our CRO will continue provide regular updates at the Sustainability and Resiliency Committee and the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Panel on Sea Level Rise.
