A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING, PURSUANT TO SECTION 2-315(e)
OF THE CITY CODE, THE DONATION TO THE HISTORYMIAMI MUSEUM OF
ONE (1) RECENTLY REPLACED ICONIC LIFEGUARD TOWER, TO BE
SELECTED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CITY MANAGER.
WHEREAS, on April 15, 2015, pursuant to Resolution 2015-28834, the City Commission
authorized the City Manager to implement a program to replace the City's aging iconic lifeguard
towers; and
WHEREAS, the Administration is in the process of completing the implementation of the
lifeguard replacement program; and
WHEREAS, the replaced lifeguard towers, although aging, are recognized internationally
for their unique and iconic design; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to promote and further the City's iconic
branding by donating one (1) of the replaced lifeguard towers to the History Miami Museum, a
premier cultural not-for-profit organization committed to collecting, preserving and celebrating
the South Florida's history; and
WHEREAS, Section 2-315(e) of the Code of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, requires
that donations with a replacement value in excess of $25,000.00 be approved by the City
Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby approve, pursuant to Section 2-315(e) of the Code of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, the donation to the History Miami Museum of one (1) recently replaced iconic
lifeguard tower, to be selected at the discretion of the City Manager.

(1) RECENTLY REPLACED ICONIC LIFEGUARD TOWER, TO BE SELECTED AT

RECOMMENDATION
Approve the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
On April 15, 2015, pursuant to Resolution 2015-28834, the City Commission authorized the City
Manager to implement a program to replace the City's aging iconic lifeguard towers. The
Administration is currently in the process of completing the implementation of the lifeguard
replacement program with new iconic lifeguard designs by William Lane Architects.
However, the replaced lifeguard towers, although aging, are recognized internationally for their
unique and iconic design. It is in the best interest of the City to promote and further the City's
iconic branding by donating one (1) of the replaced lifeguard towers to the History Museum
Miami, a premier cultural not-for-profit organization committed to collecting, preserving and
celebrating the local community's history.
This item is presented for the City Commission's consideration as Section 2-315(e)of the Code
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, requires that donations with a replacement value in excess
of$25,000.00 be approved by the City Commission.
CONCLUSION
The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission, pursuant to Section 2-
315(e) of the Code of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, approve the donation to the History
Miami Museum of one (1) recently replaced iconic lifeguard tower, to be selected at the
discretion of the City Manager.
