OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
NO. LTC # 076-2017
LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Philip Levine and Members • f the City Cs mmission

DATE: February 9, 2017
SUBJECT: INSTALLATION OF MONITORING WELLS
As part of the overall flood mitigation program, the City has contracted with AECOM,
through the Public Works Department, to install groundwater monitoring wells. The
wells, to be located across the City, will provide a better understanding of our
hydrogeology and its direct relationship with flooding and sea level rise.
A well has been proposed at 20th Street and Alton Road within the grassed median. The
work will consist of installing three groundwater monitoring wells at different depth
intervals from February 22nd to March 1st. A drill rig and a backhoe will be used to install
the well and trenching for infiltration across the street, respectively. Both sites will be
restored when the work is complete. Water and sediment produced from drilling activities
will be adequately managed by following NPDES standards. At ground level, concrete
pads will be poured around the wells to complete them. An automated measuring
system will then be installed to monitor groundwater properties on a permanent basis.
Work hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and extended hours are subject to City
approval. The above work schedules are contingent on weather and may change due to
unforeseen circumstances.
Please see attached project advisory issued by the Public Works Department. Should
you have additional questions regarding the installation of monitoring wells, please
contact Carlos Tamayo at (786) 910-1452.
