SUBJECT: Kayak Launch Project at Dickens Avbnue and 73 Street
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide information to the Mayor and
Commission that the Office of Capital Improvement Projects will commence construction of a
Kayak Launch Dock on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. The project location is north of 73 Street
and west of Dickens Avenue, on the waterway.
The project includes the installation of a new kayak launch with an ADA approach platform, a
gangway and removal of invasive vegetation and replenishing of mangroves that are adjacent to
the shoreline, walkways and a pile -anchored floating dock. This new kayak launch will be fully
ADA accessible.
LETTER TO COMMISSION
The project construction will take approximately two months. While the project is in progress,
the contractor will work within the project staging area. Please note that the nearby Community
Garden will not be impacted by this work.
The attached fact sheet is being distributed throughout the neighborhood via e-mail and door to
door distribution.

Project Overview and Benefits
The City of Miami Beach Office of Capital Improvement
Projects (CIP) will begin building a kayak launch. It will
be located on the waterway, west of Dickens Avenue
and just north of 73 Street. This project will provide all
Miami Beach residents and visitors with a new place
to access a recreational activity on the water; this
community enhancement provides a fun, innovative
way to enjoy the North Beach neighborhood - via kayak!
Please note, kayaks not included.
Scope of Work
• Install a new kayak launch that includes an
approach platform, a gangway and a pile -anchored
floating dock in compliance with the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA)
• Remove invasive vegetation and replenish
mangroves
• Provide walkways to access the kayak launch
• Install environmental signage
Timeline
This work is scheduled to begin at the end of
February 2017 and go on through the end of April
2017. Work hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday
through Friday. Please note that this schedule could
change due to inclement weather or unforeseen
conditions. Extended work hours are subject to City
approval and homeowner association notification.
What to Expect
• A fenced -off work zone will be established in the park
• The community garden will not be impacted
• All DERM-required environmental precautionary
procedures will be in place.
• Construction personnel, materials and machinery
will be present in the area.
• Some parking restrictions may be in place.
• All construction personnel are required to wear attire
with logos identifying their company for safety.
