SUBJECT: Indian Creek Drive Flooding Mitiga
ion Project Update — Traffic Impacts
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide an update on upcoming traffic impacts,
associated with the Indian Creek Drive Flooding Mitigation Project.
Drainage improvements are scheduled to begin in the area of Indian Creek and 26 Street on
Monday, April 3. The scope of work includes installing new drainage structures and pipe at the
intersection of Indian Creek Drive and 26 Street west of Collins Avenue, which will connect to
the main 72 -inch drainage trunk line along Indian Creek Drive.
Due to the size and location of the drainage line, a complete shutdown of the intersection of
Indian Creek Drive and 26 Street will be necessary. During this time, Collins Avenue between
26 Street and 27 Street will be converted to two -way traffic, All traffic traveling south on Indian
Creek Drive will be detoured east on 27 Street and south on Collins Avenue. A water - filled
barrier wall shall be used for traffic separation along Collins Avenue, and a concrete barrier wall
shall be installed next to the work zone. Sidewalks and roadway within the work zone will be
closed, but the Contractor will maintain vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The public parking
surface lot along 27 Street will be maintained during the entire project duration. This work is
scheduled for approximately four weeks.
Our Public Information Officer for the project, Heather Leslie of HML Public Outreach, is
maintaining regular communication with area residents and businesses and is releasing weekly
advisories for the project to notify them of project updates and upcoming construction. The team
will also coordinate a city -wide eblast with the Communications Office. This closure will also be
discussed at the March 23 Indian Creek Drive Flooding Mitigation Project Public Information
Meeting #2. An internal coordination meeting was conducted on March 3 with members of
Public Works, Police, Fire, Transportation, Special Events, Communications, as well as
representatives of FDOT and Miami -Dade County to discuss the closure and logistics.
