2017-29846 Reso 2017-29846 RESOLUTION NO, A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, STRONGLY OPPOSING SENATE BILL 8 AND RE-AFFIRMING THE CITY'S LONG- STANDING POLICY AGAINST CASINO GAMBLING. WHEREAS, Senate Bill 8 is currently pending consideration in the 2017 Florida Legislative Session; and WHEREAS, this Bill would allow the expansions of slot machines and casino gambling, and would continue to provide certain exclusive gaming rights to the Seminole Tribe throughout the State of Florida; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has a long-standing policy against casino gambling in Florida as evidenced by Resolution Nos. 2014-28529, 2011-27812, 2008- 26927, and 2008-26925, which are attached hereto as Composite Exhibit A and incorporated herein by reference; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach continues to be firmly committed to opposing all measures that would expand casino gambling in the State of Florida. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby strongly oppose Senate Bill 8 and hereby re-affirm the City's long- standing policy against casino gambling.
