FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager
DATE: May 9, 2017
SUBJECT: Miami Beach Police Department to ost Mexico Law Enforcement Delegation
The Miami Beach Police Department is continuing its pace -setting national leadership by
working yet again with the U.S. State Department and the International Association of
Chiefs of Police (IACP) to host a delegation of foreign law enforcement officials for the
purpose of imparting knowledge about best practices in American policing.
The MBPD will host a group of 10 Mexican criminal justice officials in June. The purpose
of this visit is to showcase best practices and our multi -disciplinary approach to domestic
violence investigations. The Mexican delegation will include law enforcement leaders
and investigators as well as victim advocates. A handful of IACP representatives are
anticipated to accompany the Mexican delegation.
The dates for the site visit are June 8-11. All logistics for travel and accommodations are
the responsibility of IACP. However, the Police Department may incur some ancillary
costs, e.g. refreshments.
This is the third time in the last two and a half years that our Police Department has had
the opportunity to host an international delegation. This is an exceptional honor and a
recognition that the MBPD continues to be a leading and respected agency in the
profession. The Department again looks forward to showcasing it skills in the area of
investigations to this international delegation.
A formal welcome for the Mexican officials is planned for June 8th at approximately 8:30
a.m. in the Community Room of the Miami Beach Police Department. The Mayor and all
members of the Commission are welcome to join us.
Please feel free to contact MBPD Chief of Staff Wendy Rich-Goldschmidt if you have any
questions about this event.
