A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, ON BEHALF OF THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE
DEPARTMENT, TO ACCEPT A DONATION OF SPECIALIST
OBSTACLES, TRAINING EQUIPMENT AND A K9 MEDICAL TRAINER,
WITH AN APPROXIMATE TOTAL VALUE OF $33,500, FOR USE BY
THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT'S K9 UNIT, FROM MIAMI
BEACH K9 KNIGHTS INC., A FLORIDA NOT-FOR-PROFIT
CORPORATION DEDICATED TO THE PURCHASE OF TRAINED
POLICE DOGS AND EQUIPMENT.
WHEREAS, Miami Beach K9 Knights Inc. is a local, not-for-profit organization dedicated
to the purchase of trained police dogs and equipment for the Miami Beach Police Department's
(MBPD's) K9 Unit: and
WHEREAS, Miami Beach K9 Knights Inc. has graciously offered to donate specialist
obstacles, training equipment and a K9 medical trainer (inanimate dummy dog), with an
approximate total value of$33,500, for use by the MBPD's K9 Unit; and
WHEREAS, the selection of vendor and proposed purchase are absolutely and solely
the choice of Miami Beach K9 Knights Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the MBPD has a professional and committed K9 team consisting of eleven
dogs; and
WHEREAS, the proposed equipment will provide the MBPD's K9 Unit enhanced
capability to train and work the K9s and, in doing so, will enable them to contribute to making
the City of Miami Beach a safer place to live, work and play.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, hereby authorize the City Of
Miami Beach, on behalf of the Miami Beach Police Department, to accept a donation of
specialist obstacles, training equipment and a K9 medical trainer, with an approximate total
value of $33,500, for use by the Miami Beach Police Department's K9 Unit, from Miami Beach
K9 Knights Inc., a Florida not-for-profit organization dedicated to the purchase of trained police
dogs and equipment.

RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
Miami Beach K9 Knights Inc. is a local, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the purchase of
trained police dogs and equipment for the Miami Beach Police Department's (MBPD's) K9
Unit, which consists of eleven (11) dogs. The Corporation has graciously offered to donate
specialist equipment to the K9 Unit to include obstacles, training equipment and a K9 medical
trainer (inanimate dummy dog). The approximate total value of the equipment is $33,500 and
the choice of vendor/s for the equipment will be the sole choice of Miami Beach K9 Knights Inc.
CONCLUSION
The acceptance of the donation will significantly increase the capability of the MBPD to train
and work the K9s,thereby increasing the safety and security of the City of Miami Beach.
