SUBJECT: Plan NoBe — North Beach Master Plan Wins CNU Charter Award
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (LTC) is to inform the Commission that on Friday,
May 6th, The Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) announced the winners of its
annual Charter Awards, given for excellence in architectural, landscape, urban, and regional
design that helps build more equitable, sustainable, connected, healthy, and prosperous
communities.
Among the winners in the "Neighborhood, District, and Corridor" category was the City of Miami
Beach and Dover Kohl & Partners for Plan NoBe — The North Beach Master Plan.
Plan NoBe, which was adopted by the City Commission in November of 2016 was recognized
for its multifaceted approach to the North Beach neighborhood's needs for historic preservation,
pedestrian -oriented design, preservation of workforce housing, and answers to rising sea levels.
Of significant importance to the jury in deciding the award was also the extensive public
involvement in the preparation of the Plan.
CNU is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), member -based, organization that helps create vibrant and
walkable cities, towns, and neighborhoods where people have diverse choices for how they live,
work, shop, and get around. People want to live in well-designed places that are unique and
authentic. CNU's mission is to help build those places.
