panel and attendees discussed ways to enhance outreach and engagement on sea level
rise, flooding and stormwater, and water and wastewater infrastructure investments.
This event will highlight several new tools to better dialogue with residents and business
owners. We look forward to learning also from this new format in community
engagement.
Also attached is the welcome flyer for the evening, with a brief description of the format
of the event and the information residents can expect to learn.
If you have any questions, please contact Assistant City Managers Susanne M.
Torriente and /or Eric Carpenter.
Thank you for you continued support.

WELCOME TO THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH OPEN HOUSE
Thank you for joining us. We have assembled a talented team of experts and
professionals to answer your questions about sea level rise and flooding, as well as our
efforts to mitigate it — including stormwater design, construction and operation.
Please make your way through the following stations for a more personalized
conversation about the program and your neighborhood.
SEA LEVEL RISE SCIENCE
Professionals from the Southeast Florida Climate Change Compact will be on site to
answer any questions about climate science and the Unified Sea Level Rise Projection.
Widely recognized as one of the nation's leading examples of regional -scale climate
action, the compact serves as the mechanism to collaborate for climate adaptation.
UNDERSTANDING ELEVATION
The city has developed a simple tool, in layman's terms, to help us all better understand
elevation. You can find out the estimated height of the new roadway project in relation to
your property. All in simple inches! The city's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team
will share the new product.
ENGINEERS AT WORK
Meet with the city's Assistant City Manager for Public Works and the Director of Capital
Improvement Projects. Learn how the work will be done, how long it will take and how to
harmonize the new work with your personal property.
THE MYSTERIES OF FLOOD INSURANCE
Meet the city's Floodplain Manager whose job is to implement ordinances and policies to
prevent flood damage. He guides the Community Rating Program, saving residents and
businesses $6 million annually on insurance premiums. Along with our Deputy Chief
Resilience Officer, they have been working with FEMA to simplify these complex matters.
Visit them for answers to your questions and perhaps even share questions that need
further research.
Thank you for joining us and for your passion for Miami Beach.
All of us together are part of Miami Beach Rising Above!
