OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
NO. LTC # 257 -2017
LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Philip Levine and Members of he City mmission
FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager
DATE: May 16, 2017
SUBJECT: Miami -Dade County to Conduct Spraying for Mosquitoes
The purpose of this LTC is to provide the Mayor and Commission with information
regarding upcoming mosquito control aerial spraying to be conducted by Miami -Dade
County tonight, after sunset weather permitting.
The aerial spraying is necessary due to a significant increase in the mosquito population
in the area. Spraying will target the black salt marsh mosquito, a nuisance mosquito
known as an aggressive biter but not considered a primary vector of major concern.
This mosquito is not the vector that can spread the Zika virus.
The mosquito control flight will take place over Homestead, Florida City, the Redlands
and the areas east of US 1 from SW 248 Street to the Rickenbacker Causeway (map
attached). No spraying will take place over Miami Beach.
