Morales, City Manager DATE: May 17, 2017 SUBJECT: City of Miami Beach Recognized as a 2017 Playful City USA Community The purpose of this LTC is to notify the City Commission that for a third year in a row, KaBOOM! is honoring Miami Beach as Playful City USA Community. The national recognition program honors cities and towns across the country for making their cities more playable. KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to saving play, recognized over 200 communities across the country as Playful City USA communities. The City of Miami Beach is honored to once again be part of their Playful City USA program. Playful City USA is a national recognition honoring cities and towns determined to prioritize play and ensure children are healthy by providing the time and space for play. KaBOOM! helps local governments address the play deficit through mayors, commissioners, parks and recreation departments, school districts and community leaders. In its 11th year, Playful City USA honors cities that are not only economically competitive, but can attract and retain families. Now more than ever, families want homes that are close to safe streets to walk, trails to ride and places to play. There is growing momentum to make cities more playable and family-friendly, as more people seek active and environmentally-conscious lifestyles. The City of Miami Beach is committed to continuously providing quality recreational programs and facilities for people of all ages and abilities.
