AN ORDINANCE OF TEE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, PRESCRIBING RULES
AND REGULATIONS FOR THE INSTALLATION
OF ELECTRICAL WIRING, PROVIDING FOR
THE ISSUANCE OF PERUITS Tri;IREFORE AND
PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION
OF THIS 0-1TDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1.
EleaFrnaermits.
No person, as principal, agent, manager or employee, shall place
or install, or cause or permit to be placed or installed, any wires,
connections, fixtures, apparatus or other electrical work of any kind
whatsoever; or make, or cause or permit to be made, any alterations,
change in, addition to or repair of any such electrical work in the
City of Miami Beach, without first obtaining a written permit for such
electrical work from the Electrical Inspector of the City of Miami Beach.
Such permit shall be denominated "lin Electrical 2ermitn and shall con-
tain a description of the work to be done thereunder and a statement of
the place, by street and number or by descriptioa sufficient to locate
the same, where such work is to be done. Electrical permits shall be
granted upon written applications therefor to the Electrical Inspector.
If the Electrical Inspector, after investigation, is satisfied that the
work desired can be done without violating any of the provisions of
this ordinance, or of any other ordinance or law governing such work
in the City of Miami Beach, and that the applicant therefor is duly
licensed to do electrical work in the City of Miami Beach, he shall
issue an Electrical permit to such applicant, upon payment of the fees
therefor. The issuance of an electrical permit shall not be construed
as an approval by the Electrical Inspector of the drawings, specifica-
tions, plans or details or such contemplated work insofar as the same,
or any portion thereof, may be in conflict with the provisions of this
ordinance of any other ordinance or law governing such work in the City
of Miami Beach. The holder of an electrical permit shall riot do or
perform, or cause or permit to be done or performed, any work other
than that designated in such electrical permit at the place mentioned
therein; and shall not do or perform or cause or permit to be done or
performed any work designated in such electridal permit at any place other
than that designated therein. In case any electrical work is desired ia
the construction, alteration or repair of any building or structure re-
quiring building permit, no electrical permit shall be issued until after
a building permit for such building or structure shall have been previous-
ly issued.
SECTION II.
PERMIT FEES FOR ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS, CONSTRUCTIONS
AND INSPECTIONS.
Permits provided for in this ordinance shall not be issued by the
Electrical Inspector until the following inspection fees shall have been
paid to the City Clerk.

No permit shall be issued for a fee less than Fifty Cents.
SECTION III.
All electrical construction, all material and all appliances
used in connection with electrical work and the operation of electri-
cal apparatus shall be in conformity to the rules and regulations set
down in what is known as the "National .&lectric Code" of rules and
regulations of the National Board of Vire Underwriters for the in-
stallation of electric wiring and apparatus as the sane are now es-
tablished or as the same may hereafter be established from time to
time except as otherwise provided in Section 4, and the said rules
and regulations are hereby adopted and approved and made a part of
this Ordinance.

Electrical Code
Cabinets and cutout boxes must have at least 2" of wiring space
between cutouts and sides of cabinet, unless the wires leave the cab-
inet or cutout box directly opposite their terminal connections. Page
107, Act. 16, Section 1602 D, Switch may be omitted.
SECTION V.
The City Electrical inspector shall have the right in the dis-
charge of his duties to enter any building for the purpose of examin-
ing and testing the electrical applicances therein or contained. And
for that purpose he shall be given prompt access to all buildings,
public and private, on application to the individual ar company own-
ing or in charge of same.
SECTION VI.
Upon the completion of the wiring of any building for light,
heat or power, it shall be the duty of the company, firm or individual
doing the same to notify the electrical Inspector, who shall within
twenty-four hours of time of such notice, inspect such wiring and
appliances and if approved by him, he shall issue a certificate of
satisfactory inspection, but no sxch certificate shall be issued un-
less such electric wiring and appliances be in strict conformity ID
the rales and regulations prescribed or required by this ordinance,
nor shall current be turned on such installation until said certifi-
cate be issued.
SECTION VII.
Any person, firm or corporation who shall fail to correct any
defect or defects in his work, after having been duly notified for
ten days by the City .1;lectrical Inspector, shall not receive any
further permit until such defect or defects have been corrected and
any case in which any person, firm or corporation shall continue to
or persistently violate the ordinance of the City in regard to Elec-
trical affairs or the orders of the Electrical Inspector touching
the same, the license of such person, firm er corporation shall be
forfeited.
SECTION VIII.
In any case of failure to comply with this ordinance, the Elec-
trical Inspector shall have authority after due notice, to cut out
lights or current in any building concerned and to enforce discontin-
uance of the same until said requirements are complied with.
SECTION IX.
Any person, firm or company who shall violate any of the
provisions of this ordinance, for which no specific penalty has
been provided, or shall fail, neglect or refuse to comply with
any order of the City Electrical Inspector given in pursuance of
and. by the authority of this ordinance and the rules embraced
therein, shall upon conviction, be fined not less than $10.00 nor
more than 4100.00 for each offense, or be imprisoned in the City
Jail not exceeding ninety days.
SECTION X.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION XI.
This ordinance shall be in effect from and after its passage
and posting in accordance with law.

City Council of the City of JTiami Beach, has been posted by me
in three conspicuous places in the City of Miami Beach, one of
which was at the door of the City Hall in said. City on the 15th
day of June, 1925, and that said. Ordinance remained posted for
a period of at least thirty days in accordance with the require-
ments of the City Uharter of the said. City of Miami beach.
