13057 RESOLUTION NO. 13057 WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is presently operating its sewage outfall system in the manner hereto- fore approved by the State Health Department, and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is constructing an extension oceanward of its present outfall system under plans heretofore approved by the State Health Department, and WHEREAS, recent technological developments indicate that sewage effluent should be subjected to treatment processes prior to its ultimate disposal, and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is desirous of conforming its system to the requirements and demands of such recent technological recommendations, but WHEREAS, an appropriate sewage disposal treatment plant is estimated to represent a capital improvement cost of a minimum of ten million to fifteen million dollars and requires approximately ten to twenty acres of land upon which to construct the same, and WHEREAS, under an existing cooperative system, the municipalities of Surfside, Bay Harbor Islands and Bal Harbour are interconnected with, and are utilizing the existing City of Miami Beach outfall system, and WHEREAS, in consequence, the problem is not one of local dimension, but is of area and county proportions, and also involves a financial capital outlay too burdensome for the City of Miami Beach to meet alone, and WHEREAS, an appropriate site for an appropriate sewage disposal system is unavailable within the corporate limits of the City of Miami Beach, by virtue of its geographical configuration and land limitations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the municipalities of Surfside, Bay Harbor Islands and Bal Harbour, join and unite with the City of Miami Beach in petitioning the County of Dade, the State of Florida, and the Federal Government for their respective financial assistance to plan; acquire a suitable site, and construct a suitable sewage disposal system in accordance with present sociological and environmental needs and demands, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that such County, State and Federal assistance and cooperation be made available to the City of Miami Beach and other affected oceanfront municipalities with all reasonable dispatch, and -1- OFFICE OF CITY ATTORNEY-1130 WASHINGTON AVENUE-MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA 33139 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that copies of this resolution be transmitted to each member of the Metropolitan Dade County Commission, the County Manager, the Mayors and Managers of Surfside, Bay Harbor Islands and Bal Harbour, the Honorable Claude R. Kirk, Jr. , members of the State Cabinet, members of the Dade County delegation to the Senate and House of Representatives to the State of Florida, to the Honorable United States Senators Spessard L. Holland and Edward Gurney, and to the Honorable United States Representatives Dante B. Fascell and Claude Pepper. The adoption of the foregoing Resolution was moved by Councilman Jerome Greene.
