13233 RESOLUTION NO. 13233
WHEREAS, the Honorable Spessard L. Holland,
after twenty-four continuous, uninterrupted and dedicated years of
service in the Senate of the United States, determined
not to seek further reelection to that high office; and
WHEREAS, his decision in that regard constitutes
a great and immeasurable loss, not only to the State of
Florida; but to each of the remaining forty-nine states
of the Union; and
WHEREAS, it is most fitting and appropriate
that the occasion of his voluntary retirement from that
high office be marked and memorialized by a suitable
tribute from the City Council of the City of Miami Beach,
Florida; and
WHEREAS, by the adoption of this Resolution.
the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, is
expressing and reflecting the sentiment and the belief
of the residents and citizens of the City of Miami Beach,
as well as the entire State of Florida, that there has
been no statesman in the Congress of the United States
who has served with greater distinction and devotion than
the said Honorable Spessard L. Holland, and his contributions
and achievements for the good of the State of Florida, as
well as each of the forty-nine other States of the Union,
and his tireless efforts to maintain the preeminence of
the United States of America in the family of nations
will long be remembered; and
WHEREAS, the history of the life of the said
Honorable Spessard L. Holland, as County Judge, State
Senator, as Governor of the State of Florida, and Senator
of the United States of America, reflected the same
courage, patriotism and devotion to duties and ideals
which he demonstrated and exemplified during his
distinguished military career in the United States Army
Air Corps, overseas in World War I;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, for itself;
for every member thereof, and for and on behalf of the
citizens and residents of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
that it does hereby pay deserved tribute and homage to the said
Honorable Spessard L. Holland for his immeasurable
contributions to the state and national well--`,,eing, and
that he is hereby respectfully advised by the said City
Council, for itself, for its members, and for the people
they represent, that thy, one and all, will continue to be
boundlessly appreciative for his public service, and that
his life and career will serve as an unending source of
inspiration to all.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the said City Council,
and every member thereof, extend to the said Honorable
Spessard L. Holland their most profound and sincere wishes
for a continued long career of good health and public service.
