13303 RESOLUTION NO. 13303
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the Board
of Commissioners for Metropolitan Dade County is contemplating
or considering the issuance of bonds for the purposes of
creating, improving and expanding Mass Transit System or
Systems, and other Capital Improvements necessary for the
general welfare and benefit of the citizens of Dade County,
Florida; it being contemplated that such proposed bond issue
will be submitted for the approval of the electorate of Dade
County, either in November, 1971 or the following Spring; and
WHEREAS, the illumination and lighting of numerous
arterial streets and highways lying within the corporate limits
of the City of Miami Beach is substandard, and is not in
conformity with recognized national or federal standards; and
WHEREAS, it is a truism, wholly without the realm
of dispute, that adequate lighting for such streets and highways
is a mandatory essential for the safety of vehicular and
pedestrian traffic alike, and that it is an equally accepted
truism that adequate lighting, meeting national or federal
standards, is a positive deterrent to crime and lawlessness; and
WHEREAS, Metropolitan Dade County is under a mandated
duty and obligation to properly and adequately maintain and
control the arterial streets and highways lying within the
corporate limits of the City of Miami Beach , Florida;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Board of
Commissioners for Metropolitan Dade County be, and it is hereby
urgently requested to specifically include in said proposed or
contemplated bond issue, a proposal for funds, or in the
alternative, to include in its forthcoming 1971-1972 budget as
an item in its Capital Improvements Program, in an appropriate
amount, to provide adequate lighting or illumination for those
arterial streets and highways in the corporate limits of the
City of Miami Beach, including new wiring, pedestals and standards
as required, so that the same may be in conformity or compliance
with nationally recognized or federal standards for the
illuminating or lighting of such arterial streets and highways;
and
BE IT FURTHER DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that copies of this Resolution
be delivered to the County Manager of Metropolitan Dade County,
and to each and every member of its Board of Commissioners for
appropriate consideration and action.
