13493 RESOLUTION NO. 13+93 WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach desires to maintain and preserve its primacy as a preeminent resort and tourist area, and WHEREAS, in order to maintain such primacy and leadership, it is essential and imperative that there be situate in the City of Miami Beach such tourist accommodations in hotels and other similar living accommodations as will serve as a standard for all other competing areas to seek to achieve, and WHEREAS, it is of sine qua non of preeminent hotel and restaurant facilities that they be staffed by suitably and properly trained personnel, and WHEREAS, such personnel are invariably eager and ambitious to acquire the skills and training necessary to enable them to extend the highest level of service to the guests of such hotels, motels and restaurants, but that such educational and training facilities are not presently readily and conveniently available to persons desirous of availing themselves thereof, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Regents of the College and University System of the State of Florida and the Board of Trustees and the President of Florida Atlantic University, presently using the facilities of Ida M. Fisher Junior High School, be and they are hereby urged and respectively requested to provide, at the earliest possible date, a suitable, proper and adequate curriculum and educational courses leading to an appro- priate college degree or certification in the fields of hotel and restaurant management and service; and that immediate steps be taken for the establishment and implementation of such curriculum, not only in the existing facility of Florida Atlantic University at Ida M. Fisher School, but also in the permanent building and campus to be established by said university in Dade County, Florida. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the said City Council pledges its aid and assistance in every possible and available measure and degree to aid, assist and facilitate the establishment and maintenance of such educational program and curriculum. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Regents of the College and University System, to the Board of Trustees of said Florida Atlantic University and to its President.
