SUBJECT: DEADLINES TO PLACE ITEMS ON THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
NOVEMBER 7, 2017 SPECIAL ELECTION; THE COUNTYWIDE AUGUST
28, 2018 PRIMARY ELECTION; AND THE COUNTYWIDE NOVEMBER 6,
2018 GENERAL ELECTION BALLOTS.
In order for the City Commission to present ballot measures to City voters, a Special
Election must be scheduled via the Commission's adoption of a City Resolution.

Set forth below are the relevant deadlines by which the City would be required to submit
its Resolution(s) to the County calling for a Special Election to be held on November 7,
2017.

preparation and to meet State -mandated deadlines to mail vote -by -mail ballots to
overseas voters.

Note that pursuant to Florida Statutes Section 100.151, "...the governing authority of a
municipality shall not call any Special Election until notice is given to the Supervisor of
Elections and her consent obtained as to a date..." Once approval is obtained from the
Supervisor of Elections, the resolution to call a Special Election must be passed to meet
the submittal deadlines listed above.
