RESOLUTION NO. 13503
WHEREAS the City of Miami Beach has been selected to
be the official host city for the 1972 Democratic National
Convention which is scheduled to be held in the City of Miami
Beach Convention Hall during July, 1972; and
WHEREAS the City of Miami Beach has been awarded a
grant from the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration of
the United States Department of Justice to conduct a National
Political Convention Law Enforcement Services Project, the
purpose of which project is to train and equip police officers
for the effective and humane policing of the said 1972 Democratic
Convention; and
WHEREAS Florida International University is uniquely
qualified to aid the City in attaining the goals and objectives
as embodied within the terms of the said grant award; and
WHEREAS the City is desirous of obtaining from Florida
International University the use of its many resources in
connection with its activities conducted pursuant to the terms
and conditions of the said grant award; and
WHEREAS the City Attorney of the City of Miami Beach
has prepared an agreement between the said City and Florida
International University, providing for the employment of a
faculty member of Florida International University with the
advice and consent of the Chief of Police of the said City, to
be the Project Director under the supervision of the said Chief
of Police; and providing, further, that Florida International
University shall allow full use of its resources as appropriately
requested by the Project Director in order that the Project
goals may be met; and
WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Miami Beach
is familiar with the terms of the said Agreement and deems it
to be in the best interests of the said City and its citizens,
residents , inhabitants and visitors , to enter into said Agreement,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and the City
Clerk-Finance Director be and they are hereby authorized and
directed to execute said Agreement for and in the name of the
City of Miami Beach, and the appropriate officers ,agents and
employees of the City be and they are hereby authorized and
directed to fully and faithfully carry out, execute and perform
all the terms , provisions , covenants and conditions of said
Agreement incumbent upon the City of Miami Beach to perform.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a supplementary budget be
and the same is hereby adopted for placement and administration
of those funds pursuant to the provisions of the grant award,
and those proper disbursing officials of the City be and they
are hereby authorized and directed to disburse the said funds
in accordance with the terms and conditions of the grant award
and the agreement hereinabove described.
