SUBJECT: Mayor's North Beach Committee
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (LTC) is to inform the Commission of a
motion passed by the Mayor's North Beach Committee at their June 29, 2017 meeting.
Members Present: Margueritte Ramos (Chair), Betsy Perez, Brad Bonessi, Kirk Paskal,
Carolina Jones, and Daniel Veitia
Members Absent: Nancy Liebman.
MOTION: to urge the City Commission and Administration to plan and fund
needed maintenance to the tennis facilities at North Shore Youth Center (NSYC)
and streetscape improvements in the surrounding areas in time for the
International Tennis Foundation (ITF) Tournament that is to be held at NSYC on
October 28 -November 11, 2017.

Motion Passed: Votes 6-0
MOTION: to restate the North Beach Committee's support of zoning changes
created by Allan Shulman and recommended in the North Beach Master Plan.
These recommendations include:
1. Allowing a preservation fund to be funded by the purchase of
increased FAR.
2. Create an FAQ in order to disseminate factual information to the
community with respects to FAR.

MOTION: to urge the City Commission to issue an RFP for redevelopment of the
Byron Carlyle Theater site and include within the RFP requirements for a theatre
and community facilities.

Motion Passed: Votes 6-0
MOTION: to recommend that City Administration seek a second and third opinion
by log cabin restoration experts in order to properly evaluate the current condition
of the Log Cabin and make every reasonable effort to evaluate the possibility of
renovating and restoring the structure either on the current site or in a different
location within the west lots, so that it may continue to be a community feature,
and to do so in tandem with the proposed North Beach Yard project and their
production schedule in order to not delay the proposed activation.
