RESOLUTION NO. 13611
BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City of Miami Beach, Florida, does
hereby formally tender its bid and invitation to the Republican
National Committee for the holding of the 1972 Republican National
Convention in the City of Miami Beach, Florida, as follows :
1. The City of Miami Beach will provide use of its Con-
vention Center facilities, rent free, to the Republican National
Committee and assume all obligations for the provision and main-
tenance of those facilities as outlined in this City 's standard
lease agreement for the period August 21-23, 1972, inclusive.
2 . The City of Miami Beach will assume responsibility
for all exterior security required to conduct the 1972 Republican
Conve,)tion in an effective manner.
3. That the City of Miami Beach will provide shuttle bus
servic.3 for convention delegates and alternates to a standard
equal to, but not in excess of, the service level maintained dur-
ing the 1968 Republican Convention .
4. The City of Miami Beach will assume responsibility
for nominal structural modifications of interior structures so as
to accommodate the Republican Convention seating plan, together
with nominal podium and rostrum appearance modifications, at a
cost r.�t to exceed $15,000.
5. The Republican National Committee must provide for a
prominent display of the City of Miami Beach Convention Center
identification signs and city symbols for repeated television ox-
posurts.
6. Excess power requirements and required air condition-
ing s' stem modifications will be paid for by those agents of the
Repubican National Committee requiring such excess power and
air conditioning modifications .
7. The City of Miami Beach will provide for 900 free
parking spaces immediately adjacent to the Convention Center
buildings, and all other parking spaces available on the Conven-
tion Center site and in the periphery of the Convention Center
shall be available for public usage at existing fees .
8. The City of Miami Beach will exert every effort to
mai.nt ,tin present taxi., food and service charges .
9. It is the intention of the City of Miami Beach to
levy rental charges for all structures left in place by the
Democratic Party during the period of July 14, 1972 through
August 20, 1972, or whatever dates are covered between the date
the Democratic Party concludes its convention and the Republican
Party convenes its convention.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council, City of Miami
Beach, Florida, that it recommends to the Republican National Com-
' mittee the adoption and execution of the following proposal, not-
withstanding that said proposal is not to be deemed, considered or
construed as being a condition or contingency attached to the
above and foregoing bid and invitation :
That the proper authorities of the Federal Government be,
and they are hereby requested to give proper and satisfactory
assurance, and take appropriate action for the establishment of
a Special Task Force to be designated as the "Convention Peace
Corps" and "Vista" organizations and to be comprised of qualified
men anti women rigidly selected from suitable and appropriate bran-
ches of the Armed Forces of the United States . Said "Convention
Peace Corps" shall be comprised of one thousand duly qualified
men and women whose Military Occupational Skills demonstrate a
history and experience of skill, intelligence, tact and psycho-
logical qualities, persuasiveness and diplomacy. Said "Convention
Peace Corps" shall serve so as to augment the City of Miami Beach
Police forces and assume and perform the same duties as the duly
appointed members of the Miami Beach Police Department and shall
be deputized as Special Police Officers of the City of Miami Beach.
Said "convention Peace Corps" shall serve in such capacity for a
reasonable time prior to the beginning of the Democratic and Re-
publican Convention . Said "Convention Peace Corps" shall be as-
signed and detailed to the Miami Beach Police Department for ap-
propriate on-site training for a minimum of two weeks prior to
the commencement of the Democratic National Convention and shall
s& rve ,under the direct command and supervision of the Chief of "
Police of the Miami Beach Police Department. All quartering and
provisioning of the personnel of the said "Convention Peace Corps"
in the performance of the duties hereinabove delineated shall be
at the cost and expense of . the Federal Government and would be
included in the regular payment, allowances and allotments due
and owLng the said personnel under their military skill while un-
der the transfer assignment as aforesaid.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council, City of Miami
Beach, Florida, that the above and foregoing Resolution be official-
ly communicated and transmitted to the Republican National Com-
mittee for its formal action thereon.
