13729 RESOLUTION NO. 13729 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, by its Mayor Chuck Hall, Vice Mayor Robert S . Goodman and Councilmen, Jerome G. Greene, Leonard Haber, Herbert Magnes, Harold Rosen and Leonard O. Weinstein, for themselves, in- dividually, and in their official capacity, and for and on behalf of all the citizens and residents of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, do hereby express their deepest and most profound sense of shock and revulsion at the indescribable crime perpetrated at the Olympic Games in Munich, Germany, on September 5, 1972, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that they express for each individual member thereof and for a community united by a sense of immeasurable grief that eleven (11) young men representing the very flower of youth- of - the Israeli Nation were insanely and tragically destroyed during their proudest hour in athletic events symbolizing the unity and fraternity of all mankind and of all nations, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the tragic sacrifice of their lives should not be in vain and that the tragedy of their passing will symbolize the strivings of their nation to achieve its rightful place in the family of nations, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that this Resolution be permanently inscribed in the minutes and records of this City Council and of this City, and that this Resolution be adopted as a measure expressing the most heart- felt expression of its participation in the grief and bereavement ex- perienced by the families of the victims of this tragedy and of the State of Israel, and of all civilized nations throughout the world, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that appropriately inscribed copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the surviving members of the families of each of the said heroic representatives of their nation: David Berger Kehat Shur Zeev Friedman Mark Slavin Josef Gottfreund Andrei Spitzer Eliezer Halfin Yacov Springer Yosef Romano Moshe Weinberg Amitzur Shapiro to the Prime Minister of Israel, Her Excellency, Golda Meir; the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency, Itzhak Rabin; and to the Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, His Excellency, Josef Tekoah.
