73-14009 RESOLUTION NO. 73-14009
WHEREAS, existing legislation authorizing municipalities
of the State of Florida to levy, impose and collect municipal
occupational licenses expires, by its terms, on September 30,
1973, and
WHEREAS, such occupational licenses traditionally and
historically are recognized and appropriate means of regulating
business and professions, and for requiring a reasonable contribu-
tion from business and operations operating within a municipality
to pay their fair portion toward the expense of government, and
WHEREAS, the deprivation of such rights and such revenues
to the municipalities of the State of Florida would result in the
subjection of the municipalities of the State to even greater
financial straits and difficulties,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Legislature of the
State of Florida be and it is hereby strongly urged to enact at
this Session of the Legislature suitable and appropriate legisla-
tion authorizing the continuance of the power of the municipalities
of the State of Florida to impose reasonable municipal occupational
license taxes and that such legislation be enacted at the earliest
possible time so that reasonable and proper budgetary planning may
be initiated and executed, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that copies of this resolution be trans-
mitted to the President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of
Representative$,each member of the Dade County delegation to the
State Legislature, and to the Honorable Ray Sittig, Executive
Director of the Florida League of Municipalities .
PASSED and ADOPTED this 2nd day of May , 1973 .
