A RESOLUTION REQUESTING CONGRESS TO ENACT
APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION GUARANTEEING
ADEQUATE OIL AND GASOLINE SUPPLIES FOR
PERFORMANCE OF MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT
SERVICES .
WHEREAS, the various news media have been giving great
publicity to an imminent shortage of gasoline and oil supplies
throughout the Nation, and
WHEREAS, the public health and welfare would be greatly
endangered and impaired in the event that the supply of such
commodities to municipalities and other local governments were
to be reduced,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the United States
Congress be, and it is, hereby formally requested to enact
immediate appropriate legislation guaranteeing municipalities and
local government agencies their full and reasonable requirements
of gasoline and oil products ; and that such local governments and
municipalities be wholly exempted from any rationing plan evolved
by manufacturers or distributors of such products and that the
manufacturers and distributors of such gasoline and oil products
be mandatorily required to supply the reasonable requirements of
all municipalities and local governments in the performance of
their governmental functions,
BE IT FURTHER DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that true copies of this resolution
be transmitted to the Senators representing the State of Florida
and to each Congressman representing Dade County.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 6th day of June 1973 .
