A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DEVELOP A PASSIVE
PARK ON THE PROPERTY COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS
ISLAND VIEW, LOCATED ON THE CORNER OF 18TH STREET
AND PURDY AVENUE ADJACENT TO THE 1ST VENETIAN
CAUSEWAY BRIDGE.
WHEREAS , the City of Miami Beach on December 14 , 1974
assumed title to 3 . 3 acres of up-land commonly referred to
as Island View; and
WHEREAS , at the time title of property was transferred
to the City, the City agreed to a deed restriction which lim-
ited the property' s use to a "public purpose" ; and
WHEREAS , there is a need for a public park of destination
for use by all residents of Miami Beach and all employees of
Company' s operating in the immediate industrial and business
areas adjacent to the property; and
WHEREAS , the concept of a public park of destination is
consistent with the existing Miami Beach Comprehensive Recre-
ation and Open Space Plan; and
WHEREAS , the future development of this property with its
expansive bayfrontage and Venetian Causeway location offers a
unique opportunity to showcase the City of Miami Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Manager is here-
by authorized to proceed with the development of a passive park
on the property commonly known as Island View and proceed with
the leveling of the property, disposal of fill, development of
landscaping plans and parking facilities for subsequent submis-
sion the the City' s Planning Board, Parking Committee and Marine
Authority.
