A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
REAFFIRMING THE COMMITMENT MADE BY THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ACQUISITION AND
DEVELOPMENT OF ANY LOCAL SITE SELECTED FOR
ACQUISITION UNDER THE STATE OF FLORIDA "SAVE OUR
COAST" PROGRAM AND EMPHASIZING TO THE GOVERNOR AND
CABINET THE IMPORTANCE OF SELECTING THE NORTH SHORE
PARCEL FOR ACQUISITION UNDER THIS PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission deems it in the best interest of the
citizens of Miami Beach, as well as Dade County and the State of Florida, to acquire certain
oceanfront properties under the State of Florida "Save Our Coast" program and to develop
said properties for public recreation open space use;
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has passed resolution no. 83-17309 in which
it agreed to participate in the cost of acquiring that parcel of land known as "the North
Shore parcel" consisting of 1,000 feet of shoreline (8.78 acres of land) located between 76th
Street and 79th Street along the Atlantic Ocean under the State of Florida "Save Our Coast"
program. As its share and participatory match in the acquisition of said parcel, the City of
Miami Beach agrees to deed to the State of Florida that land known as North Shore Open
Space Park, provided said property is held and utilized exclusively for public park purposes,
North Shore Open Space Park being that parcel of land, east of Collins Avenue, extending
from 79th Street to 87th Street along the oceanfront and more properly described in the
legal description attached hereto;
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has agreed to develop any local site
acquired under the State of Florida "Save Our Coast" Program for public recreation and
open space use;
WHEREAS, the development of any site so acquired as public recreation and
open space will be accomplished within three years of the development funds becoming
available; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has agreed to manage, operate and maintain
any local site so acquired and so developed for a period of twenty-five (25) years.
NOW, THERE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, that:
1. The City of Miami Beach hereby reaffirms its commitment to the "Save
Our Coast" Progam as stated above;
2. The City of Miami Beach wishes to stress that the acquisition and
development of the North Shore Parcel in conjunction with North Shore Open Space
Park will create a major oceanfront public recreation facility serving the City,
County, and the State of Florida and that this program is the only means of realizing
this most important opportunity.
3. The City of Miami Beach urges the Governor and Cabinet to select the
North Shore Parcel for acquisition under the "Save Our Coast" program.

SUBJECT: REAFFIRMATION OF RESOLUTION NO. 83-17309, MIAMI BEACH
PARTICIPATION IN THE "SAVE OUR COASTS" PROGRAM
On April 6, 1983, the Miami Beach City Commission passed and adopted
Resolution No. 83-17309 whereby the City of Miami Beach agrees to participate in the cost
of acquiring the site known as "the North Shore Parcel" under the State of Florida "Save Our
Coast" program. The resolution states that as its participatory match, the City of Miami
Beach shall deed to the State of Florida that land known as North Shore Open Space Park,
provided said property is held and utilized exclusively for public park purposes. The
resolution further states that the City of Miami Beach shall develop as public recreation and
open space any local site acquired under the State program, that such development shall be
accomplished within three years of funds becoming available, and that the local site be
managed, operated and maintained by the City of Miami Beach for a period of twenty five
(25) years.
As the City of Miami Beach's North Shore application will be brought before the Governor
and Cabinet later this month, it is advisable for the City Commission to reaffirm the City's
commitment to the "Save Our Coast" program and to urge the Governor and Cabinet to
select the North Shore parcel for acquisition.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends the City Commission adopt the attached resolution
reaffirming the City's commitment to the "Save Our Coast" program and urging the
• Governor and Cabinet to select the North Shore parcel for acquisition under this program.
