E TRANSIT CIRCULATOR RIDERSHIP
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to report ridership figures for the City of
Miami Beach Trolley System and Miami -Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works
(MDTPW) circulators during the third quarter of Fiscal Year (FY) 2017, from April 1, 2017 to
June 30, 2017.
As illustrated in the attached ridership report (Attachment A), the North Beach Loop observed
an average daily ridership of 2,456 passengers during this quarter. The overall ridership of the
North Beach Loop service during the third quarter of FY 2017 was 223,523 passengers. This
represents an approximate 6% increase in ridership over the previous quarter and 1% increase
in comparison to the same quarter of the previous fiscal year (Attachment B).
The Middle Beach Loop observed an average daily ridership of 3,932 passengers and overall
ridership of 357,752 passengers during the third quarter of FY 2017. This represents an
approximate 10% increase in ridership over the previous quarter (Attachment B).
The Collins Link observed an average daily ridership of 2,876 passengers and overall ridership
of 261,502 passengers during the third quarter of FY 2017. This represents an approximate 8%
increase in ridership over the previous quarter (Attachment B).
The temporary Alton -West Loop observed an average daily ridership of 1,209 passengers and
overall ridership of 110,086 passengers during the third quarter of FY 2017. This represents an
approximate 5% increase in ridership over the previous quarter and 14% increase in
comparison to the same quarter of the previous fiscal year (Attachment B).
The City of Miami Beach trolley system provided transit service to a total of 952,863 passengers
during the third quarter of FY 2017, and cumulatively to over 4.7 millionpassengers from
inception to the end of the third quarter of FY 2017 (Attachment B).
In addition to the City's trolley system, the County operates two (2) circulator routes entirely
within City boundaries (the South Beach Local (SBL) and Route 115/117). Ridership totals for
May and June of 2017 have not yet been published by MDTPW. The County ridership figures
for the third quarter will be included in the next quarterly ridership report and issued via LTC.
Based on the second quarter ridership data for FY 2017, the South Beach Local service
experienced an 29% decrease in ridership and Route 115/117 experienced a 37% decrease in
ridership as compared to the second quarter of the previous fiscal year (Attachment B).
