AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING OFFICIAL PAY SCHEDULES
FOR ALL CLASSIFICATIONS OF POSITIONS IN THE
CLASSIFIED SERVICE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE
CIVIL SERVICE ACT: PROVIDING FOR ITS ADMINIS-
TRATION AND REPEALING ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, . FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That the compensation for Classifications of positions
in the Classified Service of the City of Miami Beach,
shall be not less than the following prescribed minimums, nor more than
the following prescribed maximums:

LABOR ADMINISTRATION

SECTION 2. Employees classified as Patrolman, Fireman or Life
uuard in the service of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
who have or may attain Regular status on or before September 1, 191, shall
receive compensation for such position as provided in Ordinance No. 485,
with annual increments of increase as therein established; provided, how..
ever, that compensation shall not exceed the maximum therein provided except
in conformance with the pay schedules established by this Ordinance.
SECTION.1. The City Manager may issue detailed regulations, not con-
flicting with this Ordinance, nor with the Personnel Rules,
for the purpose of clarification and application of this Ordinance.
SECTION 4. The City Manager, upon recommendation of the Department
head, shall be empowered to fix the rate of compensation
of the individual employee, from time to time within the minimum and maxi-
mum as fixed herein.
SECTION 5. The City Manager be and he is hereby authorized and em-
powered to approve payments of Clothing Allowance, not to
exceed ten (10) dollars monthly, for detectives who are required, in the per-
formance of their duties, to furnish their own clothes.
SECTION 6. It is declared to be the purpose of this Ordinance to
provide for an orderly and fair means for the compensation
of employees in the Classified Service on the basis of the work they perform
and their competence in its performance, and to further the principles and in-
tent of the Civil Service Act in providing for an equitable basis of compen-
sation and the reward of merit, and nothing herein shall be construed to pre-
vent the withholding of pay increases or the reduction of pay rates for dis-
ciplinary purposes, provided that no reduction shall be made to a rate lower
than the minimum prescribed for the class involved.
SECTION Z. That Ordinance No, 604, as amended, and all other ordina-
nces or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and
the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION g. If any portion or portions of this Ordinance shall be
declared invalid, the remaining portions shall have the
same force and effect as though such invalid portion or portions had not
been included.
SECTION 9. This Ordinance shall become effective November let, 1942.

having been passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, has been posted by me in three con-
spicuous places in the City of Miami Beach, one of which
was at the door of the City Hall in said City on the 18th
day of January, A. D. , 1943 and that said Ordinance remained
posted for a period of at least thirty days in accordance with
the requirements of the City Charter of the said City of
Miami Beach.
