2017-29921 Resolution RESOLUTION NO. 2017-29921 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RETROACTIVELY APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS FROM COCA-COLA, T-MOBILE, HUBERT'S LEMONADE, ZICO COCONUT WATER, ATLANTIC BROADBAND, DISHES FOR DOGS, MB SUNCARE, AND GREEN MONKEY YOGA, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $8,500 FOR THE CITY'S 2017 "FIRE ON THE FOURTH" EVENT ("EVENT"), AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO APPROPRIATE SUCH SPONSORSHIP FUNDS TO MAKE ANY NECESSARY REIMBURSEMENTS AND/OR EXPENDITURES IN FURTHERANCE OF AND CONSISTENT WITH THE EVENT. WHEREAS, in 1991, the City of Miami Beach launched the first 4th of July Event as a means to attract more visitors to the City; and WHEREAS, this Event has been carried out year-after-year as a vehicle to continue to bring more visitors to the City; and WHEREAS, the Event includes all-day activities, performances for the public, and a fireworks show, all of which are free of charge to the public; and WHEREAS, in furtherance of the City's July 4th 2017 "Fire on the Fourth" event ("Event"), sponsorships were made by the following entities to the City in the cumulative amount of $8,500.00: o Coca-Cola, o T-Mobile, o Hubert's Lemonade, o Zico Coconut VVater, o Atlantic Broadband, o Dishes for Dogs, o MB Suncare, o Green Monkey Yoga; and WHEREAS, the above-referenced entities were recognized as Event sponsors; and WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends the retroactive approval of the sponsorhips and acceptance of the sponsorship funds, in the total amount of $8,500.00, from the above-named sponsors for the City's July 4, 2017 Event; and WHEREAS, the City Administration further recommends that the Mayor and City Commission approve the sponsorships and authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to appropriate such sponsorship funds to make any necessary reimbursements and/or expenditures in furtherance of and consistent with the City's July 4, 2016 Event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby retroactively approve and authorize the acceptance of sponsorships from Coca-Cola, T-Mobile, Hubert's Lemonade, Zico Coconut Water, Atlantic Broadband, Dishes for Dogs, MB Suncare, and Green Monkey Yoga, in the total amount of $8,500, for the City's July 4, 2017 Event, and further authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to appropriate such sponsorship funds to make any necessary reimbursements and/or expenditures in furtherance of and consistent with the Event. RECOMMENDATION Adopt the resolution. ANALYSIS On July 4th, 2017, the City of Miami Beach hosted its annual July 4th celebration. The event was held at the North Shore Bandshell, 73rd Street and Collins Avenue. This year's program entitled "Coca-Cola Presents Miami Beach Fire on the Fourth" featured performances by Span AIIStars, Inner Circle and The Wailers. The programs began at 11am with events for the family, food trucks and much more. The aforementioned performances started at 4pm followed by a fireworks show at 9pm. The event also offered free yoga, a free kidzone, rock climbing and more. The City also provided free transportation via event shuttles and the Miami Beach trolleys. Fire on the Fourth is an all-day event and is open to the general public at no charge. Marketing efforts for this event will include: 30 spots on Atlantic Broadband and MB77, printed ads in the Miami Herald, out-of-home advertising, news and local programming, coverage for the event, as well as heavy social media push utilizing Facebook and Twitter, online. The City secured $8,500 from the following sponsors for the event at varying levels of support: o Coca-Cola, o T-Mobile, o Hubert's Lemonade, o Zico Coconut Water, o Atlantic Broadband, o Dishes for Dogs, o MB Suncare, o Green Monkey Yoga Page 800 of 2495 CONCLUSION Staff worked diligently to identify funding sources to off-set the costs of producing this event. The Administration recommends the retroactive approval of the sponsorship funds, in the total amount of $8,500.00, from the above-named sponsors for the City's July 4, 2017 Event.
