AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 789,
ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING OFFICIAL
CLASSIFICATIONS OF POSITIONS IN THE CLASSIFIED
SERVICE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
AND PROVIDING COMPENSATION THEREFOR, PURSUANT
TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE CIVIL SERVICE ACT;
AND PROVIDING FOR THE ADMINISTRATIONN OF THIS
ORDINANCE AND REPEALING ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH".
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That Item 10 "PUBLIC RELATIONS" of Section 1 of Ordinance
No. 789 of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, reading as
follows:

SECTION 3: That Section 2 of Ordinance No. 789 of the City of Miami Beach,
Florida, reading as follows:
"SECTION 2: The City Manager is hereby authorized to issue de-
tailed regulations, not in conflict with this ordinance, nor
with the Personnel Rules, for the purpose of clarification and
administration of this ordinance. Upon recommendation of
Department Heads, the City Manager may fix the rate of compen-
sation of individual employees within the minimums and maxi-
mums prescribed."

be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SECTION 2: The City Manager is hereby authorized to issue
detailed regulations, not in conflict with this ordinance, nor
with the Personnel Rules, for the purpose of clarification and
administration of this Ordinance. Upon recommendation of
Department Heads, or upon his own initiative, the City Manager
shall fix rates of compensation of individual employees within
the limitations prescribed in this Ordinance."
SECTION 4: That Section 5 of Ordinance No. 789 of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, reading as follows:
"SECTION 5: The City Manager is authorized to approve compen-
sation in excess of the maximums prescribed in Section 1 of
this Ordinance for those employees who are assigned duties and
responsibilities clearly above and beyond the normal scope of
their positions. Such excesses shall be made only upon
recommendation of the Department Head involved and the
Personnel Director, and shall in no case exceed twenty (20)
percent of the maximums prescribed for the classification in-
volved."
be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SECTION 5: The City Manager, upon recommendation of the
Department Head and the Director of Personnel, may authorize
compensation not more than twenty (20) percent in excess of
the maximums prescribed in Section 1 of this Ordinance for
those employees whose duties and responsibilities are clearly
above and beyond the normal scope of their positions; and
the City Manager, may, upon the recommendation of the Depart-
ment Head and the Director of Personnel, authorize compensa-
tion in excess of the maximums prescribed in Section 1 of
this Ordinance for those employees who are required to work
substantially beyond the normal work hours of their positions."
SECTION 5: All ordinances, or parts of ordinances, in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
SECTION 6: If any portion, or portions, of this Ordinance shall be
declared illegal or invalid, the remaining portions shall
have the same force and effect as though such illegal or invalid
portion or portions had not been included.
SECTION 7: This Ordinance shall go into effect immediately upon its
passage and posting as required by law.

having been passed and adopted by the City Council of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, has been posted by me in three con-
spicuous places in the City of Miami Beach, one of which was
at the door of the City Hall in said Jity on the 19th day of
January, A. D. 1950, and that said Ordinance remained posted for
a period of at least thirty days in accordance with the require-
ments of the City Charter of the said City of Miami Beach.
