AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE OFFICE OF CITY
PHYSICIAN FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA; PROVIDING FOR THE METHOD OF
APPOINTMENT OF A CITY PHYSICIAN; PRO-
VIDING FOR HIS DUTIES AND THE MANNER OF
FIXING HIS SALARY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: There is hereby created the office of City Physician
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida. The City Phy-
sician shall be an administrative officer of the City
and shall be elected by a majority vote of the City Council.
SECTION 2: The duties of the City Physician shall be as follows:
The City Physician shall Make annual physical exami-
nations of the City employees in the Police Department,
the Beach Patrol and the Fire Department.
The City Physician shall make physical examinations
of all new employees Prior to their appointment to
the Police Department, Beach Patrol or Fire Depart-
ment, and in case of an epidemic or other emergency,
he shall give immunization treatments to such em-
ployees against contagious diseases .
He shall ixovide for instruction in first aid technique
of employees in the Police Department, Fire Department
and Beach Patrol.
He shall be subject to call to examine prisoners
arrested for traffic or other violations to deter-
mine whether they are under the influence of intoxi-
cating liquors or drugs or otherwise incapacitated
or handicapped in the operation of a vehicle.•
He shall examine prisoners to determine their physical
suitability for confinement and provide medical at-
tention for those who are physically ill.
He shall Provide assistance to the Coroner upon request
in determination of the cause of sudden deaths of per-
sons who have not been attended by a Physician for
twenty-four hours preceding death.
He shall examine persons suffering accident or death
in fires or on the public beaches to determine the
extent of the injury or, if necessary, the cause of
death.

He shall make routine sanitary inspections at the
City jail, lifeguard stations, fire stations, the
City golf courses, and all City comfort facilities,
and submit a report of the findings to the City
Manager.
He shall investigate the diet of the Prisoners to
determine the sufficiency of same.

He shall, in the case of all general City employees,
provide medical spot checks toward the elimination
of malingering.
He shall provide minor medical and surgical care of
City employees in connection with service - connected
injuries such as dressing of wounds, minor suturing,
etc. , and such other duties as may be prescribed by
the City Manager.
SECTION 3: The salary of the City Physician shall he fixed by Ordinance
in the same manner as the salary of other administrative
officers.
SECTION : This ordinance shall go into effect immediately upon its
passage and posting as required by law.

OF APPOINTMENT OF A CITY PHYSICIAN ; PROVIDING FOR HIS DUTIES
AND THE MANNER OF FIXING HIS SALARY" , having been passed and
adopted by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
has been posted by me in three cdnspicuous places in the City
of Miami Beach, one of which was at the door cf the City Hall in
said City on the 5th day of April, A. D. 1950, and that said
Ordinance remained posted for a period of at least thirty days
in accordance with the requirements of the City Charter of the
said City of Miami Beach.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and

this 8th day of May, A. D. 1950.
