Ordinance 988 ORDINANCE NO. 988
AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE PROMPT REPORTING
OF DEATHS, OCCTTBRING UNDER SUSPICIOUS OR
UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES, BY ANY CITIZEN FIRST
FINDING OR VIEWING THE BODY, TO THE POLICE
AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: In the event of any violent, sudden or casual death,
or in the event that any dead body shall be found
within the limits of the municipality of Miami Beach, it shall
be the duty of any citizen, who becomes aware of the death, to
report the same immediately to the nearest police officer, and
to the Police Station of the City of Miami Beach.
Any person who shall wilfully neglect, or refuse, to report
such death, or who shall wilfully touch, remove or disturb the
body of any such person, or who shall wilfully touch, remove or
disturb the clothing, or any article, upon or near such body,
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to the penalties
and fine as provided by law.
SECTION 2: Upon any such death, the police officer, or those
in charge at the time at the municipal Police Station,
shall immediately notify the representative of the State of Florida,
to-wit: The Coroner of the district of such death.
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall go into effect immediately upon
its passage and posting as required by law.

City of Miami Beach, Florida, do hereby certify that Ordinance
No. 988, entitled: "AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE PROMPT
REPORTING OF DEATHS, OCCURRING UNDER SUSPICIOUS OR UNUSUAL
CIRCUMSTANCES, BY ANY CITIZEN FIRST FINDING OR VIEWING THE
BODY, TO THE POLICE AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH" ,
having been passed and adopted by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, has been posted by me in three
conspicuous places in the City of Miami Beach, one of which
was at the door of the City Hall in said City on the 19th day
of September, A. D. 1951, and that said Ordinance remained posted
for a period of at least thirty days in accordance with the
requirements of the City Charter of the said City of Miami Beach.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and
affixed the official seal of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
on this the 15th day of November, A. D. 1951.
