AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE
NO. 789 OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING OFFICIAL CLASSI-
FICATIONS OF POSITIONS IN THE CLASSIFIED SER-
VICE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AND
PROVIDING COMPENSATION THEREFOR, PURSUANT TO
THE PROVISIONS OF THE CIVIL SERVICE ACT; AND
PROVIDING FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF THIS
ORDINANCE AND REPEALING ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH" .
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1 : That Section 1 of Ordinance No . 789 of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, be and the same is hereby amended to read
as follows :
"SECTION 1 : The following titles shall constitute the Classification
Plan, and the titles together with the prescribed pay
schedules shall constitute the Compensation Plan, both as provided
for in the Civil Service Act and the Personnel Rules, for the Classi-
fied Service of the City of Miami Beach; Florida . Compensation in
the Classified Service as to those members who are paid on an hourly
basis, after September 29, 1954, and as to those members who are
paid on a monthly basis . after September 30, 1954 , shall not be less
than the prescribed minimums nor mOre than the prescribed maximums,
except as otherwise provided herein.

Provided, however, that the increase in compensation for clerical and '
secretarial employees for second and subsequent years as herein set
forth shall be subject to the approval of the department head, and
further provided that upon inception of a promotional appointment,
compensation therefor shall commence at the rate prescribed therefor
which is next higher in amount than that received immediately pre-
ceding such promotional appointment .

recommendation of the Department Head, those laborers now having, or
hereafter completing, four years of continuous employment who, on the
30th day of September, 1956, were receiving less than $1.34 per hour,
shall, subsequent to said 30th day of September, 1956, receive $1.34 per
hour,

the City Hall in said City on the 21st day of November, 1956
and that said Ordinance remained posted for a period of at least
thirty days in accordance with the requirements of the City Charter
of the said City of Miami Beach.
