AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE
NO. 789 OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING OFFICIAL CLASSI-
FICATIONS OF POSITIONS IN THE CLASSIFIED SER-
VICE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AND
PROVIDING COMPENSATION THEREFOR, PURSUANT TO
THE PROVISIONS OF THE CIVIL SERVICE ACT: AND
PROVIDING FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF THIS
ORDINANCE AND REPEALING ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH" .
T3E IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1 : That Section 1 of Ordinance No . 789 of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, be and the same is hereby amended to read
as follows :
"SECTION 1 : The following titles shall constitute the Classifica-
-� tion Plan, and the titles together with the prescribed
pay schedules shall constitute the Compensation Plan, both as pro-
vided for in the Civil Service Act and the Personnel Rules, for
the Classified Service of the City of Miami Beach, Florida . Com-
pensation in the Classified Service as to those members who are
paid on an hourly basis, after September 29, 1954, and as to those
members who are paid on a monthly basis, after September 30, 1954,
shall not be less than the prescribed minimums nor more than the
prescribed maximums, except as othei''ise provided herein.

Provided, however, that the increase in compensation for clerical
and secretarial employees for second and subsequent years as herein
set forth shall be subject to the approval of the department head,

therefor which is next higher in amount than that received immedi-
ately preceding such promotional appointment .

Those laborers who, on the 30th day of September, 1957, were, in
accordance with provisions of this ordinance hereinbefore in effect,
receiving wages in excess of the above set-forth maximum, shall,
subsequent to the 30th day of September, 1957, receive wages in an
amount equal to the amount received by said laborers on said 30th
day of September, 1957 plus 5% thereof, provided, however, that
upon recommendation of the Department Head, those laborers now
having, or hereafter completing four years of continuous employment
who, on the 30th day of September, 1956 were receiving less than
$1 .34 per hour, shall, subsequent to the effective date of this
ordinance, receive a minimum of $1 .41 per hour .

and that said Ordinance remained posted for a period of at least
thirty days in accordance with the requirements of the City Charter
of the said City of Miami Beach.
