AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 44 OF
"THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA", REQUIRING INSTALLATION AND
MAINTENANCE OF SEAT BELTS IN ALL
MOTOR VEHICLES USED FOR SCHOOL BUS
PURPOSES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1:

and to
That Section 44.31 of "The Code of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida" be, and the same is
amended by adding a new section thereto, to be numbered
read as follows:

"Section 44.31.1.
It shall be unlawful for any person to
use or operate on the public streets of
the City any motor vehicle used as a
school bus for the transportation of
school pupils to and from school or
summer camps, or to and from any school
activities unless and until said motor
vehicle shall be equipped with seat
belts for each passenger seat therein.
Said seat belts shall be in conformity
with specifications and standards which
are in accordance with Federal law;
provided, however, that this ordinance
shall not apply to any motor vehicle
subject to and meeting all requirements
of the Public Service Commission and
operated by carriers operating under
the jurisdiction of the Public Service
Commission, or to any motor vehicle
owned and operated by any Public School
Board, nor to busses carrying twenty-four
or more passengers."
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
This ordinance shall go into effect immediately
upon its passage and posting as required by law.

having been passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, has been posted by me in three conspicuous
places in the City of Miami Beach, one of which was at the door
of the City Hall in said City on the
18th day of October, 1971,
and that said Ordinance remained posted for a period of at least
thirty days in accordance with the requirements of the City Charter
of the said City of Miami Beach.
