ANALYSIS The City of Miami Beach's Environment and Sustainability Department is hosting a series of lunch workshops to provide employees with the knowledge and tools necessary to live a more sustainable lifestyle. The workshops will provide an excellent opportunity for the sharing of ideas by both the presenters and the participants alike in a personal, hands -on environment. This series will cover topics such as air quality, composting, landscaping, and other elements that tie into sustainability. At the end of each individual workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create or interact with components that they can easily incorporate at home or work. The first workshop of this series will be the "Kill -a -Watt session" in which we will focus on energy reduction and renewable sources of energy. We will have a guest speaker from the Sustainable Miami NGO walk through a diagram showing participants how to conduct their own energy audit. This will be followed by a guest speaker from Miami Dade County who will cover solar options for home owners. Lastly, the workshop will end with the opportunity for participants to view solar powered items in action, test the energy use of everyday equipment with the "kill -a- watt" energy tester, and test out different types of lightbulbs. CONCLUSION Staff worked diligently to identify funding sources to off -set the costs of these workshops. The Administration recommends the acceptance of an in -kind sponsorship from Whole Foods Market IP. L.P, in the total amount of $2,700 to cover the costs for SIX (6) of the Sustainability Employee Workshops organized by the Environment and Sustainability Department.
