AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 789 OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING
OFFICIAL CLASSIFICATIONS OF POSITIONS IN THE
CLASSIFIED SERVICE OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
AND PROVIDING COMPENSATION THEREFOR, PURSUANT
TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE CIVIL SERVICE ACT,
AND PROVIDING FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF
THIS ORDINANCE, AND REPEALING ORDINANCES IN
CONFLICT HEREWITH, AS AN EMERGENCY MEASURE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That Section 1 of Ordinance No. 789, being an Ordinance of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, establishing official classifications of
positions in the Classified Service of the City and providing compensation
therefor be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SECTION 1. The following titles shall constitute the Classification Plan,
and the titles together with the prescribed pay schedules shall
constitute the Compensation Plan, both as provided for in the Civil Service
Act and the Personnel Rules, for the Classified Service of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida. Compensation in the Classified Service effective October 1,
1972 shall not be less than the prescribed minimum nor more than the
prescribed maximum, except as otherwise provided herein.

VII. TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES
Note: Employees in this part shall not be eligible to receive benefits under any
other part or section of this ordinance.
HOURLY COMPENSATION
9010 Convention Center Casual Laborer $ 2.25
SECTION 2. That Section 1.1 of said Ordinance No. 789 be and the same is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"Section 1.1. Any employee who, on September 30, 1972, was entitled to a
greater maximum rate of pay than provided by this Ordinance,
shall retain entitlement to such maximum rate of pay plus an additional
two and one-half percent (WO. Any adjustment authorized by this Section
will be proportionately reduced if the employee works less than 40 hours
per week."
SECTION 3. That Section 1.2 of said Ordinance No. 789 be and the same is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"Section 1.2. The pay rate steps as set forth in Tables A and B, attached
hereto and made a part hereof, shall be the basis for pay
ranges to which classifications in Section 1 of this Ordinance are assigned."
SECTION 4. That Section 10 of said Ordinance No. 789 be and the same is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"Section 10. Employees in bargaining unit classifications shall receive a
shift differential of twelve cents (12c) per hour for work
performed on shifts beginning after 3:00 P.M. and at or before 11:00 P.M.;
and a shift differential of sixteen cents (16c) per hour for work performed
on shifts beginning after 11:00 P.M. and before 6:30 A.M.
The City Manager, upon recommendation of the Department Head and the Personnel
Director, may authorize a shift differential of twelve cents (12c) per hour
to employees in other classifications for work performed on shifts beginning
after 3:00 P.M., and at or before 11:00 P.M.; and a shift differential of
sixteen cents (16Q) per hour to employees in other classifications for work
performed on shifts beginning after 11:00 P.M., and before 6:30 A.M.

SECTION 5. That Section 11 of said Ordinance No. 789 be and the same is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"Section 11. Effective October 1, 1972, employees in bargaining unit
classifications who work in excess of forty (40) hours per
week shall receive one and one-half (11) times their straight time hourly
rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of forty hours. Those employees
who are regularly assigned on a continuous basis to a work week in excess of
forty (40) hours shall receive one and one-half (11) times their straight time
hourly rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of their regular work week.
The City Manager, upon recommendation of the Department Head and the Personnel
Director, may authorize overtime pay to employees in other classifications who
work in excess of forty (40) hours per week at the rate of one and one-half
(12) times their straight time hourly rate of pay for all hours worked in
excess of forty (40) hours. The City Manager, upon recommendation of the
Department Head and the Personnel Director, may authorize overtime pay to
those employees in other classifications who are regularly assigned on a
continuous basis to a work week in excess of forty (40) hours at the rate
of one and one-half (11) times their straight time hourly rate of pay for
all hours worked in excess of their regular work week."
SECTION 6. That Section 12 of said ordinance no. 789 be and the same is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"Section 12. Employees in classifications of Carpenter, Electrician and
Equipment Mechanic shall receive a tool allowance of fifteen
dollar ($15.00) per month; employees in the classifications of Park and
Golf Course Mechanic and Bodyman shall receive a tool allowance of ten
dollars ($10.00) per month. Employees in other classifications where
personal tools are required may be paid up to fifteen dollars ($15.00)
per month upon recommendation of their department head and approval of the
City Manager.
SECTION 7. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and
the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 8. That this Ordinance shall go into effect as of October 1, 1972.
SECTION 9. This ordinance is hereby adopted as an emergency ordinance under
the provisions of Section 9 of the City Charter.

Miami Beach, Florida, has been posted by me in three conspicuous
places in the City of Miami Beach, one of which was at the door
of the City Hall in said City on the 27th day of September, 1972,

thirty days in accordance with the requirements of the City Charter
of the said City of Miami Beach.
