RESOLUTION NO.96-22152
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING THE
PROPOSED USES OF LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Police Department has applied for and will
likely receive grant funds in the amount of $386,756 under the "Local Law Enforcement Block
Grant" program; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission authorized the filing of an application for the
grant funds at its regular meeting held on September 11, 1996; and
WHEREAS, the grant application requires that at least one public hearing be held
regarding the proposed use of Block Grant funds prior to the obligation of any funds received; and
WHEREAS, the proposed use of the Block Grant funds is shown in the attached
Exhibit "A",
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a public hearing
regarding the proposed use of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds is hereby scheduled
on Wednesday, October 23, 1996 at 11:00 a.m, in the City Commission Chambers at 1700
Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida, and the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed
to publish and distribute the appropriate public notice of said public hearing at which time and place
all interested parties will be heard.

Approval of the Resolution.
BACKGROUND
The City of Miami Beach through the Police Department has applied for grant funds to the United
States Department of Justice under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program,
On September 11, 1996, at its regular meeting, the Mayor and the City Commission authorized the
City Manager to apply for funding under the Block Grant program.
One of the requirements of the grant is that the local unit of government hold at least one public
hearing on the proposed use of the Block Grant funds prior to the obligation of any funds received.
CONCLUSION
This public hearing will provide the public the opportunity to comment on the proposed use of the
Block Grant funds and meet the grant requirement for a public hearing,
