Florida Lottery Hits the Road and Makes Miami Beach Its First Stop
Date: January 23, 2002
Following the events of September 11, Governor Bush tasked State Agencies to identify
ways to bolster the State economy. As part of Governor Jeb Bush's push to increase
tourism throughout the state, the Florida Lottery teamed up with Visit Florida, the State's
tourism marketing arm, to develop a Scratch and Win game that will award $10 million in
prizes and 90 vacation packages to six Florida tourist destinations.
In November, 2001, the City's State lobbyists coordinated a meeting between members
of the Administration and David Griffin, Secretary of the Florida Lottery to discuss ways the
two agencies could partner on in-state tourism promotion. The combination of the Lottery's
statewide marketing reach and the Miami Beach/South Beach brand seemed like a perfect
match..
On January 25 and 26, 2002, the State of Florida Lottery will take its show on the mad,
with its first stop in Miami Beach. The Lottery will broadcast their Friday and Saturday night
drawings live from Lincoln Road (Pennsylvania Avenue, across from the Lincoln Theater)
at 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Friday and at 8:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m. and 11:15
p.m. on Saturday.
Lottery tickets will be available for purchase at the Lincoln Road lottery drawing site.
