Miami Beach Anchors should list specifics about their mentoring program. The Wolfson Center will present "Miami Beach: On Film and Television" a multi-faceted project which explores the culture, history and evolution of Miami Beach as documented on film and video. Presented over a 12 month period, from September through August, 2002 it will encompass 9 virtual film/video bus tours, most presented as part of 2nd Thursdays, and over 20 screenings and 4 seminars. Building upon last years successful project, "Miami Beach: On Film and Television" will feature rare and recently preserved film and video of Miami Beach, drawn from the Wolfson Center's extensive archive and dating from 1910 and spanning over 8 decades. These images, ranging from home movies to travelogues to television coverage (and from documentaries made utilizing archival images) provide the opportunity to witness how Miami Beach grew from mangrove swamps to the world class city it is today. Among the seminar, screening and! or bus tour participants are a variety of historians, subject experts and long time Miami Beach residents including Wolfson Center director Steven Davidson, noted Florida historian Dr. Paul George, noted film/video maker Mark Baker, veteran broadcaster Dan Hackel and Dr. Patricia Zimmerman, Home Movie Historian, Ithaca College and others. The screenings and seminars will feature a range of materials from the earliest home movies of Miami Beach circa 1910 to 1940s - 1950s travelogues, to television coverage through the decades. These activities will be presented at a variety of venues including the Miami Beach Public Library, The W olfsonian-FIU, the Miami Beach Garden Conservancy, the Colony Theater, the Ocean Drive Auditorium and others. Screenings, seminars and film/video bus tours will also be presented in conjunction with other i activities, such as Art Deco Weekend, the Miami Film Festival, the Jewish Film Festival and the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, making possible even broader audiences. As with last year, The Wolfson Center will participate in almost every 2nd Thursday, either offering its film/video bus tours and/or screening materials at one of the many venues such as the Colony Theater, Miami Beach Garden Center or the Wolfsonian-FIU. Having various screening times and locations will ensure opportunities for all Miami Beach citizens to attend the activities over the course of the project. All activities will be free and opened to the public (except for the film/video bus tours not presented as part of 2nd Thursdays which will have a modest admission charge). All events will be widely publicized in print, radio and television and on-line and will appeal to residents and tourists alike and will be of interest to all age groups including children, families and senior citizens. The modest changes in the proposal based on the reduction in funding will mostly effect the number of film/video bus tours, screenings and seminars; and certain venues may also change, replaced by others. Aspects of staffmg will also reduced and/or modified. Curatorialy, some changes in film and video materials to be screened will be necessary and the various seminar and screening participants will also be modified. For the public, the number of activities and the diversity of materials and programs accessible will remain unchanged. As noted above, the Wolfson Center will participate in most 2nd Thursdays, and have screenings and seminars in conjunction with other activities, such as Art Deco Weekend and the Miami Film Festival. v Exhibit 2-A: Project Budget I Total Project Budget [Note: The following Project Description is revised to represent the possible Grant reduction, as a result of the potential City Resort Tax shortfall.] Name of organization: Louis Wolfson II Project Title: Miami Beach on Film & TV Meiia History Center Date(s) of Project: 10/101 - 9/30/02 Attach a copy of the total Project budget or list cash expenses and cash revenues specifically identified with your program, Project or events.
