Conventions and Special Events March 2002

As part of the City's Major Events Planning process, the City of Miami Beach has been working to assure that
planning and resources are appropriately allocated for all events taking place in March 2002. The following
are the conventions and special events taking place in Miami Beach:

Mar. 28 - 31, 2002 Sports and Fitness Festival Lummus Park 20,000
In connection therewith, several meetings have been held with the hotels, nightlife industry, area residents,
and businesses of the City's planned efforts.
The Administration has undergone several initiatives in connection with this planning process, including:
Conducting an ongoing monitoring of hotel occupancy; monitoring special and nightclub events;
developing and maintaining ongoing community contact, including with nightclub and hotel owners;
researching internet information and websites; limiting off-duty police available for those weekends to
maximize the number of officers available; and developing appropriate transportation plans.
· Maintaining our 24-hour Information hotline number (673-7400).
Implementing a traffic plan to improve traffic flow in the South Beach Entertainment District for the South
Beach Wine and Food Festival (March 15 - 17, 2002) and the Sports and Fitness Festival (March 28 -
31, 2002).
South Beach Wine and Food Festival - March 15 - 17, 2002
Traffic will be diverted on Ocean Drive and Ocean Court from 5"~ to 15"~ Streets beginning Sunday, March
17, 2002 at 8:00 AM continuing until Monday, March 18, 2002 at 2:00 AM. There will be regular traffic
patterns in the rest of South Beach. Valet operations will be moved from Ocean Drive to Collins Avenue.
Sports and Fitness Festival - March 28 - 31, 2002
Traffic will be diverted on Ocean Ddve and Ocean Court from 5t" to 15t" Streets beginning Saturday,
March 20, 2002 at 6:00 AM continuing until Apdl 1, 2002 at 6:00 AM. There will be regular traffic pattems
in the rest of South Beach. Valet operations will be moved from Ocean Drive to Collins Avenue.
