ANAL Y$IS
The School of Fire and Environmental Sciences at Miami-Dade Community College, North
Campus operates the only Fire Academy in Miami-Dade County. They are in need of a
used fire engine to conduct classes and training at the Fire Academy. Mr. J. Graham
Smart, Director of the School of Fire and Environmental Sciences has agreed to exchange
"in-kind" services with the City of Miami Beach for one of our surplus fire engines. The City
wishes to donate one (1) 1975 American LaFrance Fire Engine, vehicle 14-5 with 114,378
miles, to the college. The vehicle has been valued at $5,000 by the Ten-8 Fire Equipment
Company, a vendor of used fire apparatus. The college will reciprocate by offering the use
of their facilities (live fire building) and training props with a value of $10,000 to $15,000
depending on the venues utilized. The live fire training building is the only place in the
County where our firefighters can train under actual live fire conditions. The City intends
to donate the aforementioned vehicle in "As Is" condition, makes no representation as to
the condition of the vehicle or warranties whether expressed or implied, and assumes no
responsibility .
This vehicle is no longer in service and would otherwise be auctioned by the City. The City
Commission should authorize the donation to the School of Fire and Environmental
Sciences at Miami-Dade Community College, North Campus.
