2002-24782 Reso " . RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE. CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $900,000, TO THE UNITED STATES FIRE ADMINISTRATION, ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT PROGRAM (2002 FIRE ACT), FOR FUNDS NECESSARY TO INCREASE THE CITY'S FIRE DEPARTMENT CAPACITY; AND TO APPROPRIATE THE FUNDS, IF AWARDED. 2002-24782 WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued a notice of funding availability of funds available through the 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant; and WHEREAS, the United States Fire Administration is the lead agency responsible for administering and distributing the grant funds; and WHEREAS, this year, the United States Fire Administration is encouraging Fire Departments to apply for activities in one of four different programs: 1. Fire Operation and Fire Safety, 2. Fire Prevention, 3.) Emergency Medical Services, 4.) Firefighting Vehicles; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Fire Department is in the process of preparing a grant application for an amount not to exceed $900,000 for programs and equipment that will enhance the City's Fire Departments capacity; and WHEREAS, these funds will ensure that City Miami Beach Fire Department can enhance its capacity to better serve the residents of our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized, to submit a grant application for an amount not to exceed $900,000, to the United States Fire Administration, Assistance to Firefighters Grant (2002 Fire Act), for funds necessary to increase the City's Fire Department capacity; an to appropriate the funds, if awarded.
