A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO
EXECUTE, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH POLICE
DEPARTMENT, A MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD
OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, FOR THE PURPOSE OF
COORDINATING LAW ENFORCEMENT PLANNING, OPERATIONS, AND
MUTUAL AID BENEFITS BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD AND THE CITY.
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the City of Miami Beach and the School
Board of Miami-Dade County, through their respective Divisions of Police, to ensure the
public safety by providing adequate levels of police services to the citizens of the City
and the students and staff in the public schools of Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, because of the existing and continuing possibility of the occurrence
of law enforcement problems and other natural and man-made conditions which are, or
likely to be, beyond the individual control of the services, personnel, equipment, or
facilities of either the City of Miami Beach Police Department, or the School Board of
Miami-Dade County, Division of Police; and
WHEREAS, in order to ensure that the preparation of these law enforcement
agencies will be adequate to address any and all of these conditions, to protect the
public peace and safety, and to preserve the lives and property of the people of the City
and the students and staffs of the School Board of Miami-Dade County, the City and
the School Board have the authority, pursuant to the authority granted in Chapter 23,
Florida Statutes, "Florida Mutual Aid Act," and agree to enter into the attached
Agreement.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Clerk are hereby authorized to execute, on behalf of the City of Miami Beach Police
Department, the attached Mutual Aid Agreement with The School Board of Miami-Dade
County, for the purpose of coordinating law enforcement planning, operations, and
mutual aid between the City of Miami Beach and the School Board of Miami-Dade
County.

Adopt the Resolution
BACKGROUND
The City and the School Board of Miami-Dade County, because of the existing and continuing
possibility of the occurrence of law enforcement problems and other natural and man-made
conditions which are, or likely to be, beyond the control of the services, personnel, equipment, or
facilities of the City of Miami Beach Police Department or the School Board of Miami-Dade
County, Division of Police, believe that it is beneficial for each to participate in a Mutual Aid
Agreement as authorized by Chapter 23, Florida Statutes.
AN AL YSIS
This Agreement will permit the Police Department and the Miami-Dade County School Board
Division of Police to draw upon each others resources. The Police Department has many proactive
juvenile and/or crime prevention programs in the public schools. These programs are enhanced with
the cooperation of the Miami-Dade County School Board Division of Police. Many criminal
investigations that involve Miami-Dade County School Board students, personnel, or properties are
investigated by the Police Department. Likewise, many criminal acts as well as information
regarding crimes that occur in the City come to the attention of Miami-Dade County School Board
police officers. This Agreement will formalize the exchange of information and both parties will
benefit by it. In addition, it will give each party the ability to call upon the resources of the other in
the event of an emergency situation. In the event of an emergency situation, the Agreement clearly

CONCLUSION
By approving this Resolution, the City and the School Board of Miami-Dade County will enter into
a Mutual Aid Agreement that will benefit both.
