1. Xango Com Sapatos, Giovanni Luquini & Dancers, November 1-2,2001, Colony Theater, 8 p.m.
Commissioned by Miami-Dade Community College and co-presented by Akropolis and Tigertail
Productions, Miami Beach-based choreographer Giovanni Luquini created the third installment of his
dance/theater trilogy for seven dancers. The work explored the themes of self control, individual choice
and unrequited desire. The commissioning of the work made it possible for two Brazilian dancers from
Luquini's native Bahia to spend three months in Miami developing the work for performances in the
United States and Brazil. With an original score by Andrew "DJ Spam" Y eomanson and costumes by
Estela Vrancovich, this work advances the careers of several contemporary performing artists residing in
Miami Beach.
2. Sri: In Search of the Goddess, Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, March 17,2002, Lincoln Theater, 7 p.m.
The acclaimed classical Indian music and dance ensemble returns to Miami Beach in an evening of
traditional repertory as well as a newly created work that fuses Odissi dance with contemporary
choreographic techniques accompanied by live musicians on violin, flute, sitar, mardala and vocals.
For a week prior to their performance, the artists ofNrityagram will conduct master classes and lecture
demonstrations at the Miami-Dade Community College Wolfson, North and Kendall campuses, New
World School of the Arts, Northwestern PA V AC and the Miami Beach Senior Center.
As part of the ArtsBeach 2nd Thursdays, the musicians ofNrityagram will perform a free concert of
Indian classical music in the Botanical Gardens.

and video artist Miranda July will perform her latest work, commissioned by the Rotterdamse
Schouwburg, the I.F.F.R., and the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art. The performance is a
collaboration with DJ and sound artist Zac Love.
Miranda July founded Joanie 4 Jackie (formerly Big Miss Moviola), a movie distribution network for
independent women movie makers. This project has allowed women of all ages and backgrounds to
exchange their movies and give each other support. As part of her residency, July will work with young
women filmmakers and screen some of her previous work at locations to be determined.
Due to the tragic events of September 11, we were forced to cancel the residency and performance by
Companhia Clara Andermatt. A co-presentation with Tigertail Productions, the performance was originally
scheduled for October 3, 2001 at the Colony Theater.
