Design Review BoardVacancies
Date: March 25, 2002
As you may be aware, the City has one remaining vacancy on the Design Review Board. While this
last remaining vacancy has not yet reached a critical point in terms of affecting meetings and
agenda's, the Administration would like to have the position filled as quickly as possible so as to
avoid any future issues relative to Board quorum.
The vacant category for the Design Review Board is for the position of Registered Architect; in this
regard, the Administration has identified two (2) highly qualified and capable individuals:
1. Michael Steffens,
Mr. Steffens is a practicing architect who has previously served on the DRB and has expressed an
interest in being re-appointed. Mr. Steffens is well versed in the areas of urban design, architectural
context and has an enormous amount of experience in design and construction.
2. Ralph Choeff.
Mr, Choeff is a practicing architect who resides in the City of Miami Beach. Mr. Choeff has
expressed a strong interest in being appointed to the DRB and believes that his years of expedenca
in design and construction, as well as his familiarity with the built context of Miami Beach will be an
asset to the Board.
Both Mr. Choeff and Mr. Steffens practice's are not on Miami Beach and, therefore, neither is
expected to have conflicts with the City's ethics ordinance. Both individuals are well suited for the
vacant position on the DRB and either candidate would make a fine addition.
The Administration urges the Commission to appoint one of these two highly qualified registered
architects to the DRB at the Commission's meeting of Apdl 10, 2002.
