RESOLUTION NO. 2017-301
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CORAL GABLES, FLORIDA URGING THE MIAMI-
DADE COUNTY STATE LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION TO
GIVE CLOSE SCRUTINY AND CAREFUL
CONSIDERATION TO THE NOMINATION OF DAVID
"RITCH" WORKMAN TO THE PUBLIC SERVICE
COMMIS SION.
WHEREAS, in September of 2017 Governor Rick Scott appointed David "Ritch"
Workman as a Commissioner to the Public Service Commission; and
WHEREAS, such gubernatorial appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida
Senate; and
WHEREAS, the Public Service Commission exercises regulatory authority over electric,
natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater utilities; and
WHEREAS, the Public Service Commission consists of five members selected for their
knowledge and experience in one or more of the fields related to the duties of the Public Service
Commission who are appointed to four-year terms; and
WHEREAS, a Miami Herald article published in October of 2017 detailed Mr.
Workman's past as a legislator and raised some issues of potential concern; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission urges the Miami -Dade legislative delegation to give
close scrutiny and careful consideration to the public record and public information regarding Mr.
Workman prior to confirming his appointment on the Public Service Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CORAL GABLES:
SECTION 1. The foregoing "Whereas" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being
true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption hereof.
SECTION 2. That the City Commission urges the Miami -Dade legislative delegation to
give close scrutiny and careful consideration to the public record and public information regarding
Mr. Workman prior to confirming his appointment on the Public Service Commission.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk is directed to send copies of this resolution to all
members of the Miami -Dade legislative Delegation, the Miami -Dade League of Cities, the City's
lobbyists, and neighboring municipalities.
SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall become effective upon the date of its passage and
adoption herein and remains in full force and effect until supplemented, amended, repealed or
otherwise altered.
